Web Audio Recorder

Privacy Policy

Web Audio Recorder records only when you press record, uploads a recording-quality WAV copy to your cloud account, and lets you save an optional MP3 file.

1. What the extension does

The extension records audio only when you press record. When you stop recording, the extension prepares a WAV recording for cloud upload and an optional MP3 file for local download through Chrome's download feature.

Web Audio Recorder uses email sign-in so recordings and consent controls can be associated with your cloud account.

2. Data we collect

When you use the recorder, Chai stores your account email, account id, consent choices, recording metadata, and the WAV recording created by the extension. Consent choices include privacy-policy acceptance, participant-consent confirmation, confirmation that you are 18 or older, confirmation that you will not record anyone under 18, and your AI-training choice.

  • Audio is captured only after you press record, and only while recording is active.
  • Recordings can include your voice, other speakers, background audio, and personal information spoken during the recording.
  • Recording metadata can include filename, content type, byte length, SHA-256 hash, sample rate, recording time, upload status, and recorder install id.
  • The optional MP3 download is saved only where you choose in your browser.

3. Data we do not collect

  • No browsing history, tabs, page content, documents, search history, bookmarks, or unrelated website data.
  • No contacts, messages, calendars, payment details, government IDs, precise location, or keystrokes.
  • No audio before you start recording or after you stop recording.

4. How recordings are handled

Recordings are uploaded to the cloud for your account. If you choose to allow AI training, Chai may use raw audio and derived transcripts, labels, features, quality signals, and evaluation examples to train and improve Chai AI models. If you choose cloud storage only, your recordings are not used for AI training.

Human review requires your explicit consent for specific purposes, such as support you request, labeling, evaluation, safety or quality review, or model-training improvement. If you choose cloud storage only, Chai does not use human review of your recordings or derived transcripts for training or labeling.

Chai does not sell your data, transfer it to data brokers, use it for personalized advertising, or use it to determine credit-worthiness or lending eligibility.

5. Recording responsibly

You must tell all meeting participants that the recording will be uploaded to Chai and that it may be used for AI training if you opt in. Do not record unless all participants have given the consent required for recording, cloud upload, and the training choice you select. You must be 18 or older to record, and you must not record anyone under 18.

6. Permissions

The extension requests only the permissions it needs to record, save a file, and manage cloud workflow state: access to capture the audio you choose to record, the Chrome downloads capability to save the MP3 file, alarms for upload retries, and local storage for session, consent, settings, and queued upload metadata. It does not request host access to the websites you visit.

7. Storage, processors, and controls

Cloud recordings and consent metadata are stored in Chai cloud systems using Supabase for authentication, database, file storage, and serverless upload controls. Privacy-scoped product analytics are sent through Supabase to PostHog without recording audio, transcripts, filenames, storage paths, account email, or auth tokens.

Open extension settings to change future consent, withdraw training consent for uploaded recordings, delete cloud recordings, or revoke access. Changing consent or revoking access clears queued uploads stored by the extension on this browser before they can be retried.

8. Chrome Web Store Limited Use disclosure

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

The extension does not request Google Workspace API data.
